Glory story - Madevi Dailly
Madevi Dailly, a freelance animator and producer, created her winning entry The Day the Buffalo Escaped as her graduation film while she was studying animation at Edinburgh College of Art.
Madevi has previously been nominated and won prizes for her work. She told IMAF "I'd won a prize in a BBC digital animation competition in my 3rd year at college but this was the first prize for my graduation film, even though it had been nominated for other awards, including a Royal Television Society Students award and a Scottish Students on Screen award."
Having recently graduated from college, Madevi has already set up her own company, Sprout, specialising in animated content for the screen and the web. The prize money from IMAF has helped to support her as a freelance worker. "Getting paid in a timely fashion can sometimes be problematic and it's been great having something to stabilize my cash flow!"
Sprout is doing well so far; recent commissions include an animated sequence for documentary 'Gold Fever', and an animated music video for Edinburgh band 'The Virgin Teeth' (which will be entered into this year's competition). She is also producing two short films at local animation studio Red Kite, as well as continuing to develop concepts of her own.
Fortunately for Madevi, her hobby is now her job, but it can still be difficult to fit everything into a busy schedule. "Unfortunately I don't have much time to draw at the moment as I am focusing more on my production role. I hope to set up drawing sessions in the near future with other animators to keep us skilled and motivated!"
Winning the IMAF prize also lead to a news article in the Edinburgh Evening News on the 22nd of April:
